AART SPACE proudly presents Banksy Captured by Steve Lazarides, Volumes 1&2. The books that lift lid the lid on the antics, heists and near misses of the most renowned, elusive and subversive street artist of our lifetime.

Steve Lazarides met Banksy in ‘97 and quickly became his driver and accomplice then later manager, agent and gallerist. But it was as a photographer that he was uniquely placed to grab the shots that captured the moments that would change the Art world forever. Selecting from 10,000 images caught on film, before camera phones, and often whilst on the run either chasing cows or fleeing from police Lazarides takes us on a truly revelatory journey.

Bristol, Old Street, Shoreditch, Portobello.

LA, New York, Paris.

Tate, Natural History Museum, Southbank. Even the studio. It’s all there.

Stacked with high quality, full spread stunning photographs interspersed with enlightening and very funny accounts of how it all went down the seminal works can be seen in their proper context. On the street. Getting a reaction.

Volume 1, first released in 2019 to huge acclaim, charts the arrival of Banksy in London and his prolific vandalism of its streets accompanied by Steve’s accounts of how they got away with it. There are also the trips back to the farm in South Gloucestershire and Cheddar Gorge.

Volume 2, published in 2020 and held in storage along with the remaining copies of Volume 1 became yet more victims of Lockdown and haven’t seen the light of day until now.

With 250 more pages of full colour high quality prints we are taken to LA for the Barely Legal show, back to the streets of Bristol where it all began, Brighton, The British Museum heist, Marc Jacob’s defacement in NY, raids in Paris and the Swiss Embassy, the “installation” in the Natural History Museum along with special chapters dedicated to Bridges, Crows and, of course, Rats.

It completes Steve’s incredible journey between ‘97 and ’08 showcasing his own talent and eye for the opportunity to tell the story like no one else can.

Alongside the paperback versions of both Volumes AART SPACE is also releasing limited Hardbacks of Volume 2 in its striking Pink binder. We are also able to offer signed copies of all versions by the author.

These books represent a compulsory must have for any lover of street art, collector or student of the Protest movement of which Banksy remains to this day its most provocative and arresting figure. Just ask the Judges.
